Cake Explosion

I decided for my particle assignment to make a cake explode. Since I am making a Wal-mart level, and there is a bakery in Walmart, I thought that this would be a good decision since my level involves lots of food. There were a couple of examples I found for a realistic food explosion, however I could not find an example of a tutorial. However, since it is a type of explosion, I am going to substitute the fire and smoke particles with cake bits and frosting.

I think breaking down the explosion will be easier with small pieces of cake that eventually lead to heavier bits of cake just like the sparks.
The frosting that drips away will be a little bit harder to create. Similar to smoke and the force ring, stretching and slowly having the frosting disappear is something that could create that frosting.
The splatter of the cake in the background I might make similarly to a blood splatter (or just throw a splatter decal in the back and have it appear as soon as the cake explodes).

I feel that with this combined with the "fire explosion" substituted with cake parts would make a pretty convincing cake explosion for my level.
