Race Intro Sequence
I wasn't really sure where to start except with games I know or used to know. I came across a couple of introduction sequences but nothing with the race introduction sequence. So, I started finding games I knew and came across some old favorites I used to play which, have pretty interesting old intro sequences.
The first one I found was from Diddy Kong Racing, an old N64 game
I could not believe I found this game that I completely forgot about. I absolutely love the introduction sequence and how it focuses on the character but at the same time, shows different types of race tracks in a fluid motion. It also highlights bosses in the game as well, such as the dinosaurs in the background. I also love the different vehicles they used in this game such as a water bumper vehicle? Such a childhood memory.
This clip is also from Diddy Kong racing and shows a short clip of a boss race. its fast and concise but it doesn't show off the track. However, I feel like for my specific map, that I would love to have a zoom in on the starting race line just like in this sequence.
Another racing game knew well was of course Mario Kart. When watching through most of these different race tracks, wether it was with the N64, Gamecube or Wii, all of the race sequences started out the same: panning around three different parts of the track, then at the very end showing off the title, Mario Kart, making sure their branding was shown. I was not too excited with this animation sequence but it does give off a view of the track and does emphasize interesting parts about specific maps that make it interesting.
The last few games I found which I was really excited about was actually a monster truck game! They actually make monster truck racing games! I was so excited to see these, since I am in a monster truck mini-van that my style does exist. Here is the first one that I found.
This game is EXACTLY what I need to portray in my game, since my vehicle is all about smashing other cars, riding on top of them and mainly just ruining other players chances of winning. I really liked the introduction sequences, however the zoom in on the starting line I did not actually appreciate. It felt a little too rushed for me and didn't give me enough time to prepare for the race. Though, this introduction sequence is similar to that of Mario Kart, It showed off more of the track than special points on the map, leaving exciting new things up to the player to find which I liked.
